The theory is that a leak creates a very high-frequency noise that can be monitored by an ultrasonic sensor. In a «non-leak» situation the ultrasonic pattern will be constant, but when a leak occurs the signature will change dramatically. ClampOn’s DSP technology distinguishes and filters background noise unrelated to leakages so that the hiss from the leaks can warn the operator.
The ClampOn DSP Leak Monitor tsubsea version is designed to be installed at critical points such as valves, flanges, joints, etc., and can monitor very small leakages. A pressure differential of as little as 1 bar can be monitored in gases, and 3 bar in liquids.
ClampOn PIG detection systems perform this operation in a simple way as they only monitor the PIG from the outside of the pipe. The sensor is simply clamped onto the pipe, and there's no any need then for welding or drilling during installation. The sensor is capable of detecting all types of PIGs.

DSP involves complete digitalization of the system and the elimination of analogue filters. ClampOn is the only manufacturer of PIG detection systems to use DSP, which enables the sensor to operate in several frequency ranges simultaneously, eliminating the danger of the detector being triggered by noise sources other than PIGs.
